Acton-Boxborough Regional High School

The Rev Report - September 5, 2025

Posted Date: 9/05/25 (6:15 PM)

Dear ABRHS Students and Families,

This week, students and staff have certainly settled into their daily routines. As I walked through the halls at the high school today, it was hard to tell that we had only started a week ago. We are excited about our Student Council-sponsored Movie Night on Leary Field tonight and many athletic events this weekend. Next week, we are excited for the annual Fall Activities Fair that will showcase our many AB clubs and activities!

Student Council Outdoors Movie Night - Tonight

Tonight, Student Council is hosting an Outdoor Movie Night on Leary Field from 7:00 - 9:00 pm featuring The Greatest Showman. Free admission and food for all. Bring a blanket or a towel. School IDs are required, and no bags will be allowed. Please enter near the Senior Lot.

Safety Drills

Students did an excellent job during our two fire drills this week. It is also imperative that we prepare for situations that involve active threats and intruders. Tragically, such events have increased in number at schools across the nation. As I shared last week, on Tuesday, September 9, we will conduct our first ALICE Drill of the year. We activate our ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) protocols during a situation involving an active threat. We will prepare students before the drill and share information with caregivers once the drill is complete. Thank you for your attention to keeping AB as safe as possible.

Fall Activities Fair - Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11, during Lunch

We are excited to host our Fall Activities Fair next Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11 in East Commons during all lunches. AB is proud of over 70 clubs and activities, and we are looking forward to new membership in all! Students can stop by both days during their lunches..

School Pictures -  Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11 during English

School pictures will be taken during English classes on Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11. For any students who miss these dates, the Make-up Picture Day will be Wednesday, October 16. Families will receive order information from Mark Lawrence Photography and may call them at 603-882-0116 with any questions.

School IDs

Every student will be provided an ABRHS ID card using their school picture. Once issued during the first quarter, we ask that students carry this ID card with them at all times. In the meantime, students should carry their IDs from last school year if they still have them. If not, they may sign in when entering the school.

College Visit Calendar for Seniors

We are pleased to host numerous college visits for our 12th graders. Dates can change, so it is a good idea to check the calendar periodically. Students are notified of the visit dates of colleges they have selected as being of interest to them in their SCOIR accounts. Before a visit, seniors should check in with their teachers. If there is a conflict or issue with missing a class, students can drop by quickly to introduce themselves to the Admission Counselor and return to class. Juniors may only attend these sessions if they have a free period. Please contact Ms. Holden-Webber at holden-webber@abschools.org with questions.

PSAT Exam Registration for 11th Graders

The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) will be administered in school for all 11th graders on Tuesday, October 14. We recommend that 11th grade students considering applying to college take this exam. The PSAT will measure critical reading and math problem-solving skills, and is the qualifying exam for National Merit scholarships.

Online exam registration will begin on Monday, September 8 and end on Monday, September 29. In order to register, students should visit www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/222297. Payment by credit card is required. If you require financial assistance, complete a request for a fee waiver as part of the registration process.  We only offer this test for 11th graders. Please contact Shannon Dandridge at sdandridge@abschools.org if you have questions.

Understanding the College Application Process for Senior Parents and Caregivers

The Counseling Department Fall College Night for parents and caregivers of seniors is Thursday, September 18 at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium. Early decision, early action, and application procedures will be discussed. This is also an opportunity for parents to ask questions about the colleague application process.

Financial Aid Night

The Counseling Department will host a Financial Aid Night presentation on Thursday, September 25 at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium. We are pleased that Julie Shields-Rutyna, a MEFA (Massachusetts Educational Financial Authority) representative, will join us to share information on college financing, types of aid, and college financial aid applications. Please reach out to Wioletta Pawlowska with any questions.

Senior Dues & Senior Class T-Shirts

As mentioned in the Opening Day Senior Class assembly, Senior Dues ( $200.00) pay for the following: Cap and Gown, High School Diploma, Senior T-Shirt, Yearbook, and a ticket to the Kimball Farm Outing. Senior Dues are required for all seniors. Follow this link to learn more about Senior Dues and the Senior Class T-Shirt.

ABRHS School Council 2025-2026

We will have our first School Council meeting on Wednesday, October 8, from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. School Council is a school-based committee composed of parents, caregivers, teachers, students, community members, and the principal. We meet seven times over the course of the year to discuss school initiatives and handbook improvements. We have several spaces open for parents, caregivers, and community members, and we would love to have you join this group. Please email Melissa Dempsey (mdempsey@abschools.org) if you are interested.
